Privacy Policy
Effective October 4, 2026
Voilà (“the app”) is a macOS application, published by Francois Lopitaux (“we”), that displays and manages your Google Tasks. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used and stored, and the choices you have.
1. Data the app accesses
When you choose “Connect Google Account”, Voilà asks Google for a single permission (OAuth scope):
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks: view and manage your Google Tasks.
With that permission the app can read and change your task lists and tasks: titles, notes, due dates, completion status, order and subtasks. It cannot access your email, contacts, calendar, files or any other Google data.
2. How the data is used
Your Google Tasks data is used only to provide the app's features you ask for:
- showing your tasks and lists in the app;
- creating, renaming, completing, reopening, reordering, rescheduling and deleting tasks;
- saving your time tracking (time spent, estimate, running timer) and whether the task is in Now as a short line in the task's notes, for example
⏱ 42m / 1h · now, so it syncs to your other devices through Google Tasks.
No person reads your data, and it is not used for advertising, profiling, or training artificial-intelligence models.
3. Where the data is stored
- Your tasks stay in your Google account. The app keeps a copy in memory only while it runs.
- Sign-in token: the OAuth refresh token is stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac, restricted to that device.
- Preferences (window position and size, the selected list, the last focused task and its title, display settings) are stored locally in the app's macOS preferences.
All communication goes directly from your Mac to Google's servers over encrypted HTTPS. The sign-in uses Google's recommended method for desktop apps (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE).
4. Sharing and transfer
We do not sell, rent, transfer or share your data with anyone. The only party the app communicates with is Google, to provide the features above.
5. Google API Services User Data Policy
Voilà's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Your choices: access and deletion
- Sign out: in Voilà, choose ⋯ → “Sign Out of Google”. This revokes the app's access and deletes the token and cached data from your Mac.
- Revoke access at any time from your Google Account: myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Remove the app: delete Voilà from your Applications folder. Its token is also removed when you sign out.
- Time-tracking lines in task notes are ordinary text in your Google Tasks; you can edit or delete them like any note.
Your tasks themselves remain in your Google account and are governed by Google's own privacy policy.
7. Children
Voilà is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
